The TCU Daily Skiff newspaper, and its recent offspring the DailySkiff.com website, have been regionally and nationally recognized for the work of their student journalists. Although the student publications operate under the oversight of the Schieffer School’s student publications office, the student news and advertising staffs make all the editorial calls from news to design to advertising.
For 2008, student publications staffers won 60 awards from state, regional and national journalism organizations.
The TCU Daily Skiff was founded in 1902 by enterprising student Ed S. McKinney, whose ambition was to keep his efforts at a college education afloat. More than a century later, the Daily Skiff has evolved into the student-managed news and advertising publication of record of the events, issues, and developments that affect TCU communities. The Daily Skiff was recognized earlier in 2009 by the Society of Professional Journalists as its Mark of Excellence winner for daily papers in Texas and Oklahoma, and the Daily Skiff won the 2008 Sweepstakes Award in the spring from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association.
DailySkiff.com, the newspaper’s website, was named a 2008 national finalist in the Mark of Excellence among the nation’s top three collegiate news websites for 2008, making it one of SPJ’s top three national picks.
