If you are a strategic communication, news-editorial or broadcast major, or if you are wanting to be, we have scheduled pre-advising workshops for you the afternoon of Tuesday, October 20.
First-years, sophomores and students new to the Strategic Communication Division will meet from 3:30-4:10 p.m. Juniors and seniors majoring in Strategic Communication will meet from 4:20-5:00 p.m. Both sessions are meeting in Moudy North room 141.
All news-editorial and broadcast majors, regardless of class standing, will meet in Moudy S. room 204 at 5 p.m.
The purpose of the pre-advising workshops is to answer general questions you may have and to share information with you about the majors and the Schieffer School's new advising process. We will also distribute and explain to you how to fill out the paperwork you will need to bring with you to your individual advising appointment with your Schieffer School adviser.
Course advising for the spring and summer semesters begins November 2 and runs through November 13. You will be meeting with your individual, assigned adviser during that time. The purpose of the pre-advising sessions is to prepare you for course advising because it is your responsibility to understand and to fulfill degree requirements.
The pre-advising meetings are part of an expansion of our advising program that was promised at the all-majors meeting at the beginning of school.
Please watch e-mail for future advising bulletins. Schieffer Advising Bulletin No. 1 contained important general information about this fall's process.

P.S. - Finally, a word about the spelling of "adviser." For those of you who are experts on the AP Stylebook, you know that "adviser" is the preferred spelling in North America and in all the content that we produce at Schieffer School. If you read Advising Bulletin No. 1, you will note that "advisor" was used. That is because that is the spelling that appears in TCU's official documentation on advising. "Advisor" is preferred in Great Britain and, so the argument goes, it aligns with the academic tradition that we inherited. Well, we've decided to go with "adviser" from now on - it's the spelling you will need to use in all your Schieffer assignments, even if we are a tad non-compliant with the west side of University Ave. - Director Lumpkin.
