Extensive training is provided at our 4-day, all-expenses-paid training conference in Chicago where you will meet over 500 interns from around the country, listen to guest speakers, attend workshops, and more! ONGOING – PAID POSITION - CONTENT & SOCIAL MARKETING INTERN
Description

Description

SML, a nationwide provider of full-service moves and labor-only moving services, is seeking an intern for an ongoing content marketing/social media marketing position.

Strategic Communications majors are preferred, but not required.

Don’t let the purported “boring nature” of the industry scare you: we are a young, forward-thinking and innovative company constantly searching for new ideas. The work environment is fast-paced and high energy; this is not a position where you’ll be pigeon-holed in a dank office writing about cardboard boxes and packing peanuts all day, wishing you were watching grass grow instead.

This position reports directly to the Director of Online Marketing, also a TCU graduate.

Our office is a fun, young, casual, but high-energy environment. Be ready to show up in jeans or shorts (weather permitting). During football season, be prepared for heated debates between the Horned Frog Contingent (there are three of us here… soon to be four?) and the Red Raiders Posse. Importantly, don’t get the impression that this is a “boy’s club” – far from it. Gender-wise, the office is split almost exactly evenly.

The position includes the following responsibilities:

- Creating and curating rich media content (short videos, infographics, etc.),

- Seeking out opportunities to guest blog post on relevant blogs and online publications,

- Writing four in-house blog posts and one guest blog post per week,

- Managing social channels (at present, Twitter, Facebook, and Google+… Pinterest to follow soon),

- Crafting press releases as necessary,

- Other related marketing duties as necessary

This position does not include any of the following:

- Grunt work/busy work,

- Fetching coffee,

- Running errands/playing messenger,

- Any of the typical intern tropes

The right candidate will have the following skills and abilities:

- A sharp wit and an excellent sense of humor,

- Ability to think quickly and intelligently,

- Ability to write flawlessly,

- A basic understanding of the utility of content and social media marketing, as well as public relations (specifically press inclusions), and what role they play in a comprehensive online marketing plan,

- Basic familiarity with the social platforms mentioned above

The right candidate does not need to have the following skills or abilities, but they are a plus:

- Talent with Adobe CS4+ Creative Suite (Specifically Photoshop),

- Graphic Design talent,

Location

This position is for our corporate headquarters in Hurst, TX, approximately 20 minutes’ drive from TCU’s campus.

Hours

Preferred hours are four hours per day, four days per week, or equivalent, between the hours of 8AM and 6PM. We are willing to be very flexible on how and when you work, as long as we can come up with a normalized schedule.

Pay

This is a paid internship based on hours, availability, and experience. A good candidate will earn more than minimum wage.

Academic credit would also be available on a semester basis.

About SML

SML is a nationwide moving services provider, however we are not your average local “two men and a truck” moving company. We provide a multitude of moving services to thousands of clients across the nation, from simple help loading or unloading a rental truck or storage unit to a complete full-service cross-country move, and everything in-between. We work closely with major national partners like Penske Truck Rental, AAA, Budget Truck Rental, Home Depot, and CubeSmart Self Storage (among others).

ONGOING - Internship at the Student Press Law Center
Description

The Student Press Law Center has internship positions available in its Washington, D.C.,-area office each school semester and during the summer, including (1) traditional news reporting positions and (2) a position focusing on social media and organization-building. The internships are open to undergraduate and graduate students as well as recent college graduates with experience in news writing and an interest in media law.

The SPLC is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that serves as a source of legal assistance for the student media and the public, providing information on subjects ranging from libel and invasion of privacy to freedom-of-information law and censorship.

Journalism Interns research, write and help edit the Report, the Center's magazine that chronicles student press law cases and controversies from around the country. Interns also write News Flashes and analysis pieces for the Center's popular website. Those with an interest in video and multimedia are especially encouraged to apply, and help us create the images that will bring students' censorship experiences to life.

Outreach-Social Media Interns help build and manage the SPLC's public "face" through Twitter and social media, getting news about the latest legal developments -- and about the SPLC's work on behalf of student journalists -- in front of a larger audience to build awareness of the legal challenges students face.

But an SPLC internship isn't all work. Interns join in issue-oriented seminars organized by the SPLC and the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. In recent semesters, we've toured the New York Times Washington bureau, heard arguments at the Supreme Court, and met with the Washington Post's legal staff.

We offer at least 3 full-time internships per semester, paying a living expense stipend of $3,500 for the term. Many interns arrange to receive academic credit from their college or university with the support of the SPLC.

To apply for an internship, send a cover letter describing your interest in and qualifications for working with the Student Press Law Center along with a resume, samples of your news writing and the names and telephone numbers of two professional or academic references.

During the fall and spring terms, we also offer one unpaid, part-time position for a D.C.-area college student with flexible hours that can be structured for academic credit. Applications for this position will be accepted until filled.

ONGOING: Internships at Advocate Magazines
Description

About us

We know hyperlocal journalism. For 20 years, Advocate magazines have been developing award-winning, community-oriented content. Every month our magazines are delivered to doorsteps and newsstands throughout the city, and our more than 200,000 dedicated readers in five of Dallas’ most vibrant neighborhoods look to us for the stories that daily newspapers and regional magazines can’t or won’t publish. In addition, thousands of readers visit our websites each day to read blog posts, listen to podcasts, and watch videos and photo slideshows focusing on people, events and issues in their neighborhood.

What we’re looking for

This is the perfect internship for a student who understands that the future of journalism is hyperlocal, community-based and becoming more technology-driven, and who is brimming with new ideas and a new outlook on the profession. We’re looking for highly motivated multi-taskers who enjoy talking to people and can approach stories from unique angles. If you’re a writer or photographer who longs for a rapt audience, who believes that journalism can make a difference, who wants to work in a fun and stimulating environment, and who is ready to jump in with both feet, then this is the internship for you.

Internship details

• Our fall, spring and summer internships are open to graduate as well as undergraduate students. Experience or published work with professional publications is preferred, but experience with a university publication is also considered. Preference is given to students with multimedia experience.

• The vast majority of our interns’ time is spent working on stories or projects for our magazines, blogs and websites. By the time interns leave, they have grown familiar with the excitement and pressures that coexist at a monthly magazine, and have a few professional clips to their names.

We office in one of Dallas’ most eclectic and growing neighborhoods. Outside our doors, within walking distance, are numerous restaurants and a neighborhood shopping district, and just down the street is the city’s largest recreation area and park. Interns have a desk available to them at our office, but also are allowed to work off-site (shoe leather journalism is encouraged). Our hours are essentially 9-5, Monday through Friday, and we work with interns to determine hours within that time frame, according to their schedules.

• Because we are a small company, we can offer only unpaid internships, but because we are a small company, interns have the chance to be involved in the meat of magazine work. In most circumstances, interns must be enrolled in a university course to receive academic credit. Our interns often work on a part-time basis — at least 15 hours a week in the fall or spring, and at least 25 hours a week in the summer — giving them time to go to class or work another job.

Contact Information
If you are interested in an internship, send a cover letter, résumé and clips (hyperlinks are fine) to editor Keri Mitchell at mailto:kmitchell@advocatemag.com?subject=Advocate%20internship.
