Schieffer School presents “Fort Worth Remembers JFK” – complete video available

Fort Worth, TX

The Schieffer School and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram partnered to present Fort Worth Remembers JFK at 6:30 Wednesday evening, Sept. 11, in Ed Landreth Auditorium on the TCU campus.

Bob Schieffer, moderator of CBS’ Face the Nation, CBS News’ chief Washington correspondent and TCU alumnus, hosted the discussion with several journalists who covered JFK’s fateful visit to Fort Worth and Dallas in 1963 and actor Bill Paxton, who, as an 8-year-old, came with his family to hear the president speak at the Hotel Texas. Tickets to the event were sold out.

Paxton told the audience, “There’s still a healing going on.”

Schieffer said, ““As we pull back 50 years, I think it was the weekend that changed America.” He continued, “I think we came to look upon the presidency in an entirely different way. Up until that point, we thought our president was somehow this superhuman individual. … We were reminded the vulnerability not only of our president but for everyone. We were reminded of the preciousness of life.”

Panelists also included Hugh Aynesworth, author, journalist and historian, whose book November 22, 1963: Witness to History, was published a week earlier; Mike Cochran, former Fort Worth AP correspondent and reporter at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram; Gary DeLaune, former KLIF radio anchor; and Bob Huffaker, former KRLD radio announcer.
